राजस्थान की मुरड़िया मिटटी वाली जमीन पर हर चार- पांच कदम बाद अपने बिल से झांकता यह उदासीन सी दिखने वाली गोल सिर की छिपकली स्थानीय भाषा में सांडा कहलाती हैं, अंग्रेजी में इसे स्पाइनी टेल्ड लिज़र्ड (Spiny – tailed lizard) कहते हैं ।

Spiny tailed lizard is a very common lizard in some areas of the Thar desert, particularly where the land is hard in Rajasthan. Locally this species is known as Sanda.

यह मूलतः शाकाहारी हैं जो घास पात खा कर अपना जीवन यापन करती हैं, परन्तु कभी कभार यह टिड्डे आदि कीट भी खा लेता हैं।

These lizards are mainly herbivores, but sometime they can feed on grasshoppers and other insects.

यह सरीसर्प अनेक प्रकार के प्राणियों का जीवन आधार हैं, इन्हे लग्गर फाल्कन बड़े चाव से खाता है।

This reptile is a base of many lives, one such good example is Laggar Falcon, who fondly feast on them.

अन्य रैप्टर्स जैसे बूटेड ईगल भी इन्हे खाते हुए देखे जा सकते है I

Others raptors like the Booted eagle also feed on them

मरुस्थलीय लोमड़ी भी इसे अक्सर अपना शिकार बनाते हुए देखी जा सकती हैं।

Even desert fox or White footed fox have been seen feeding on them.

डेजर्ट मॉनिटर लिज़र्ड भी इन्हे आसानी से अपना शिकार बना लेती हैं।

Desert monitor lizard also hunts them often.

अपने घास के मैदानों के  लिए हर समय यह अन्य सांडो से यह संघर्ष रत रहते हैं।

Since they are feeding on grass so they have been securing their grass patches from other Spiny tailed lizards, here you can see them fighting for the grass patch.

इनका आपसी संघर्ष अपने बिलो, क्षेत्र एवं साथी पर अधिकार स्थापित करने के लिए भी होता हैं। संघर्ष के दौरान एक दूसरे के पीछे भाग कर, अपने प्रतिद्वंदी को एक सधे पहलवान की भांति पटखनी देते हुए भी देखा जा सकता हैं।

the fight is not only for the grass patch but to control the burrow, territory and mate. They fight like trained wrestlers.
